Ilitch Charities Feature: Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

For more than 50 years, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History – one of the first African American history museums in the country – has dedicated itself to exploring and celebrating the cultural legacy of African Americans. “In a city like Detroit, which has a large African American population, it’s very important to have a center that allows us to both celebrate and learn about a culture that’s literally all around us,” said Neil Barclay, President, and CEO of the Charles H. Wright Museum.  The Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and all the Ilitch Companies have collaborated over the years to develop programs that celebrate this impactful cultural history in Detroit. Barclay accepted a $100,000 grant at the Detroit Sports + Entertainment’s Community Celebration, presented by Ilitch Charities.
