  • Winning Design of the 2023 Limited Run Poster to be Unveiled May 11

Pine Knob Music Theatre is setting the stage for its return as one of metro Detroit’s most highly acclaimed rites of summer for concertgoers. Following last year’s 50th anniversary season and reprising its #1 ranking for Top Amphitheatre in the world, 313 Presents is excited to announce its new partnership with College for Creative Studies (CCS) to establish an annual poster competition for the renowned venue. Pine Knob Music Theatre is presented by Proud Partners United Wholesale Mortgage, Trinity Health and Ally.

The winning design for Pine Knob’s inaugural poster will be unveiled on Thursday, May 11. Additional details will be announced.

Working with some of the top illustration and design students in the country at CCS, a well-respected art and design college in Midtown Detroit, 313 Presents will now proudly offer an opportunity each fall to highlight students’ talents in an annual poster design competition.

“The artistry we saw to kick off our first-ever Pine Knob poster competition was outstanding and inspiring,” said Howard Handler, President of 313 Presents. “We’re looking forward to showcasing and supporting future CCS students in what we hope to be an annual event for many summers.”

This year’s contest included ten participants from the CCS Illustration class led by instructor Don Kilpatrick. Hosted throughout the 2022 Fall semester, 313 Presents worked with students to provide real-world experience with an actual “client” to create a professional look and feel for their finished creation that was to represent Pine Knob’s beloved summertime tradition and serve as its official limited run 2023 commemorative poster. Students with the top three designs received small scholarship awards from 313 Presents and the winning poster will serve as the venue’s Proud Partner promotional giveaway at select events and available for purchase throughout the season in-venue and online at 313Presents.com. A portion of the poster proceeds will be donated to CCS.

“We are grateful for the partnership with 313 Presents and the experiential learning opportunities this project provided for our Illustration students,” said Donald Tuski, President of the College for Creative Studies. “Pine Knob is a top music venue and it is exciting that our students were able to create a commemorative poster for the 2023 season. We look forward to working with 313 Presents and continuing this competition on an annual basis.”
