As Miguel “Miggy” Cabrera finished his last season of his 21-year baseball career, the right-handed hitter received his flowers from every team in the MLB. As a two-time American League MVP, a four-time AL batting champion, the only triple crown winner in Major League Baseball since 1967 and member of the 3,000-hit and 500-home run clubs, it was well-deserved. Here’s an overview of the 30+ gifts he received over the 2022-23 season, many of which outlined his achievements and/or staples from each respective clubs’ city.

  • Arizona Diamondbacks: a $10,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation, and a vacation at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona
  • Baltimore Orioles: a custom brick from the former B&O Warehouse that overlooks right field at Camden Yards
  • Boston Red Sox: a donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation and a No. 24 placard from the Green Monster at Fenway Park
  • Chicago White Sox: a $5,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation, a custom Tigers bench made out of baseballs and bats, a bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac
  • Cincinnati Reds: a custom bat listing his career numbers against the Reds
  • Cleveland Guardians: a custom guitar with his name, photo and jersey number
  • Colorado Rockies: a portion of the Coors Field scoreboard featuring his name and a two-day stay at the Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs
  • Houston Astros: a cowboy hat, bottle of wine from the vineyard of Astros manager Dusty Baker and a team-signed bottle of champagne
  • Kansas City Royals: a $10,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation and framed photo collage commemorating the 2012 game against the Royals, where he achieved the triple crown title
  • Los Angeles Angels: a custom surfboard, listing many of Miggy’s milestones
  • Los Angeles Dodgers: a framed Hollywood star, donning his name 
  • Miami Marlins: A custom-designed and hand-etched humidor and cigar box and a bottle of Santa Teresa Bicentenario Ultra Añejo Rum, with customized packaging and a hand-painted bottle
  • Milwaukee Brewers: a $5,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation, a cheesehead hat, and a custom Harley Davidson leather motorcycle jacket
  • Minnesota Twins: a $5,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation, a custom fishing rod, fishing hat and tackle box, a silver hockey stick
  • NY Yankees: a $10,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation, a framed painting depicting his two-out, two-run, game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Mariano Rivera on Aug. 9, 2013 and an autographed subway sign from the Yankee Stadium stop
  • Oakland Athletics: a team-signed bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon 
  • Philadelphia Phillies: a framed photo collage and an autographed “DET” placard from the Citizens Bank Field scoreboard
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: a framed painting of Cabrera standing on Pittsburgh’s Roberto Clemente bridge with Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner and Paul Waner: Pirates who are also members of the 3,000-hit club
  • Seattle Mariners: a $7,500 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation and personalized apron and gift basket from Starbucks
  • St. Louis Cardinals: a $3,500 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation and framed photo of his 400th career home run, hit against the Cardinals’ Tyler Lyons on May 16, 2015
  • Tampa Bay Rays: a scoreboard message that read, “Thanks for the memories, Miggy.”
  • Texas Rangers: a $5,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation and a custom saddle
  • Toronto Blue Jays: a framed collage from Aug. 22, 2021: the game in when he hit his 500th career home run, off Blue Jays pitcher Steven Matz
  • Washington Nationals: A custom rocking chair, player-signed base and a folded American flag that has flown at the Capitol

Finally, the Detroit Tigers celebrated “Miggy Weekend,” September 29-Oct. 1 which included a weekend long series of fan-involved events, recognition from city and state officials: 

  • A $24,000 donation to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation
  • Council Member Fred Durhal III, City of Detroit, presented a Spirit of Detroit Award as well as a testimonial resolution on behalf of Detroit City Council recognizing Miguel Cabrera’s longstanding commitment to the city
  • Deputy Mayor Todd Bettison, City of Detroit, presented an official proclamation on behalf of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan recognizing Miguel Cabrera’s longstanding commitment to Detroit
  • Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, State of Michigan, presented an official proclamation on behalf of Governor Gretchen Whitmer recognizing Miguel Cabrera’s commitment to Detroit and the state of Michigan, officially naming October 1, 2023 “Miguel Cabrera Day” in Michigan
  • A custom set of cleats made of baseballs from monumental moments in his career 
  • A Comerica Park stadium seat signed by his final team

Cabrera will remain in Detroit as a Tigers staff member: special assistant to the President.
