The Detroit Tigers Foundation Partners with Meijer and The Children’s Center to Provide Back-to-School Supplies for Students
“Back to School Backpack Bazaar” Participants Celebrated at Detroit Tigers Game on September 11
To support the educational well-being of children served by Detroit’s The Children’s Center, the organization provides 1,500 backpacks each year stuffed with school supplies. Presented by Meijer and the Detroit Tigers Foundation, The Children’s Center Back to School Backpack Bazaar took place throughout the summer, culminating in over 259 families served by The Children’s Center attending the Tigers game on September 11 to see the team take on the Colorado Rockies.
The Children’s Center provides specialized clinical services for children affected by behavioral, emotional, educational, intellectual and developmental challenges or may have experienced trauma.
Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, Meijer, and Children’s Center colleagues filled the backpacks with grade-appropriate supplies across multiple events in June at The Children’s Center’s campus in Detroit and a stuffing day at Comerica Park in July. Backpacks were distributed to program participants in elementary, secondary, and high school in August to kick off the school year.
