Tigers Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Weekend of Events, Highlighted by ¡Fiesta Tigres!

The Detroit Tigers kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month in style, celebrating the city’s vibrant Hispanic community and team personnel of Hispanic descent. During a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles, Comerica Park played host to ¡Fiesta Tigres! on Saturday, September 14, featuring Latin music, special cuisine, giveaways, celebrations, and more.

The festivities began on Friday, September 13 with Hispanic Heritage Night, one of the Detroit Tigers’ theme games exploring the cultural richness of Detroit. Fans who purchased a special ticket package received a limited-edition Detroit Tigers Hispanic Heritage hat and everyone enjoyed a postgame concert from Mexican American singer Frankie J.

During Hispanic Heritage Night, the Tigers and Comerica Bank also honored the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month Game Changers with a private pregame reception. These four metro Detroit community members have made a significant impact through leadership, advocacy, and philanthropy ,inspiring positive change and creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

The festivities continued the following day with the19th annual ¡Fiesta Tigres! celebration presented by Miller Lite.  Fans received a “Tigres” soccer jersey, courtesy of Miller Lite. A pregame on-field ceremony honored former Tigers All-Star catcher and broadcaster Alex Avila, as well as the Tigers’ current uniformed personnel of Latino heritage.

The Tigers closed out the weekend with Roberto Clemente Day, saluting All-Star Tarik Skubal, the Tigers’ 2024 Roberto Clemente Award nominee.

Throughout the series, the Tigers distributed more than 1,500 tickets to local Hispanic organizations as part of the celebration. Additionally, the Detroit Tigers Foundation made a donation to Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development’s summer youth program.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated across the U.S. from September 15 to October 15.
