June is celebrated around the country and in Detroit as LGBTQ+ Pride Month, and the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers are supporting the community through various activities.

In partnership with Comerica Bank, the Tigers and Red Wings continue the Game Changers series honoring individuals who are making a profound difference in the community, this month focusing on those supporting the LGBTQ+ efforts. Each honoree receives a $1,000 grant dedicated to the charity of their choice from the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings.

Before the Detroit Tigers game on Pride Night at Comerica Park, the following four Game Changers were honored.

  1. Dave Garcia, Executive Director of Affirmations LGBTQ+ Community Center
  2. Reverend Dr. Roland Stringfellow, Sr. Pastor of Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit
  3. Jan Stevenson, Co-Publisher and CFO of Pride Source Media Group
  4. Dave Wait, Chairperson of Motor City Pride

Also during pride night at Comerica Park, the Tigers logo was lit up in rainbow colors, the Game Changers were honored during an on-field ceremony along with a choir and band who wore a rainbow-colored Tigers’ Old English ‘D.’

This past weekend, colleague volunteers from both teams joined nearly 40,000 others at the annual Motor City Pride Parade in downtown Detroit.

The Red Wings are also supporting and celebrating Hockeytown’s dedication to equality and inclusion and hockey during Pride Month by selling a limited-edition Pride t-shirt featuring the iconic Hockeytown logo in rainbow. Proceeds will benefit local LGBTQ+ organizations and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation.
